Sheffield last night – two reviews - Europe tour news (20)

Thanks to Nick Hall for his pithy review:

“Dylan kicked ass tonight in Sheffield! Truly, a great gig!”

Thanks also to Gerald Bamford, who’s been going to see Dylan since being enlisted to boo at the 1966 Cardiff gig.

He’s now the song and dance man in Back Pages, the Norfolk-based Dylan tribute band. Hmmm… Dylan played My Back Pages for the first time on the tour in Sheffield last night. I wonder…?

“Sheffield was a strong, enjoyable gig. It had a cohesive style which made it hang together. The newer material came across strongly. Highlight was High Water. The band was in control of the material throughout, with some deft arrangements. They even looked darned good.

“The sound from our seats near the front was excellent. But the crowd insisted on standing, for what was really a laid-back gig intended for listening, not bopping.

“A fine performance. On to London for Sunday’s gig.”
